Frequently Asked Questions

General answers

What is the origin story for the Berkeley Changemaker(R)?

Man teaching

TheBerkeley Changemaker(R) codifies what Berkeley has always stood for: an ethos of questioning the status quo and thinking, and acting, beyond oneself. An early inspiration was the course, "Becoming a Changemaker," taught by Alex Budak. He has recently published a book of the same title. This course enrolled roughly fifty students, from 17 majors, and earned a student course evaluation of 6.7 out of 7.0. We are thrilled that Alex Budak brings his enthusiasm and expertise to our Berkeley Changemaker gateway course

I'm a student. How do I enroll in Berkeley Changemaker courses?

We welcome all matriculating Cal undergraduate students into our courses. You can find a listing of all current and upcoming courses, as well as available syllabi, on the "Berkeley Changemaker Courses" page.

Unfortunately, at this time, we do not have courses available for non-matriculated UC Berkeley students.

Are you offering Berkeley Changemaker content to staff members?

Yes, almost hundreds of staff members from across UC Berkeley's campus, as well as the entire University of California system, have enrolled in one of our many Berkeley Changemaker staff workshops. Further workshops are under development and will be announced on the "Berkeley Changemaker Courses" tab. In the meantime, if you'd like to learn more, please write to us at: changemaker@berkeley.edu. Thanks and Go Bears!
