Nichole Lewis - Biology Education Researcher

Headshot of Nichole Lewis

Nichole earned her PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from UC Davis in 2022 studying mutations in histone proteins specific to childhood brain cancer. To complement her bench science background, she has extensive experience in education instruction, course design, communicating science to the public and outreach. After graduation she pivoted into science education and is now a postdoctoral scholar at UC Berkeley working as a Discovery Education Specialist on the Integrative Biology Departmental Berkeley Discovery Innovation Award, Discovery for All: Empowering Inclusive Communities. During her postdoc Nichole has worked with faculty to make discovery-based learning changes to their teaching and is part of one of the instructional teams that was awarded the Presidential Chair Fellows Grant for 2023-2025. Student success and joy in learning are at the core of how Nichole approaches instructional design and aims for every student to feel welcome in her class and have the space to explore what they love about science.
